The roof of my Dakota has pretty much peeled like a banana. I was just gonna sand, primer and rattle can it, but someone told me that would/could cause electrolosis because of the type of factory paint.Never heard that one before, anyone know if this is true?

 

I never heard of that, or any problems besides of fading without a clear coat. Go ahead and do it.

 

Electrlosis or rust to bare metal, which is worse? My clearcoat is trash on the hood and roof but paint is still there. I am considering a can of clearcoat to seal it for the winter, dont want a fresh paint job while weather is cold. I dont know if this is a good idea or bad but it will beat rusting and make prep a little more difficulot in the spring.

 

Thanks for the responses. The roof is just starting to rust, the rest of the body is fine except a couple of spots in the grey on the drivers door. I'll probably rattle can the roof.
