Default New axle older truck

Can I put an 8 1/4 rear end from a 2002 dakota in a 1993 dakota?
I have a line on a 2002 with 3.55 gears (same as my current) but it also has a lot less miles and a limited slip differential.

thanks guys

I do a little work with wrecking yards because of my job. Lots of times the guys there have a lot of info on what years will interchange. I am lucky and get great accurate responses. Give it a try, but get a couple of answers. There is always that one guy....

It will work. If you have 2wd, you will need a 2wd axle. Same for 4wd. The shock mounts on the newer axle are different. 1 shock will work 1 will need to have a bracket welded on.

If all the swap takes is to weld the shock bracket on, then it would be worth getting the limited slip. Good luck with it.
