odometer not working 1993 Dakota 5.2

My 1993 Dakota with a 5.2 engine, the odometer has stopped working. The speedometer works but seems to jump back and forth about 5 mph with a ticking noise.
Is this a cable issue or is it electrical

The cable is the problem for the jumping. The gauge cluster has gears inside of it to tie the speedo and odometer together. That may be your problem.
