The other day the truck's starter lost its top bolt and loosened off the other, fixed it and away we went. Now its freezing out, go to start it up, nothing!! No crank at all, no sound, checked large wire to starter, hot. Checked little wire to solenoid, nothing when key is to start, tried neutral gear, nothing!! where is the starter relay, if it is on the left fenderwell, which one is it? There is 2 of them side by side, and one different style closer to firewall. any other suggestions?? i thought I saw in my chiltons schematics that a yellow hot coming from the ignition powers the relay to send power to the solenoid? is this true. HELP. I'M COLD

 

if you are just tring to get it going so you can go to work then reach in put it in park and turn the key. now outside jump power to the sol with a 10 ga wire and you go to work get the truck home etc etc.

now onto the relay. it should be in the pdc. look at the bottom of the pdc lid and it should say what is what. if not then ill look it up tonight. find the relay and pull it out. swap in your a/c relay. if it starts hooray get a relay. if not then pull it back out and get a piece of wire and jump power to pin 87. this is the ckt to your starter sol. if it fires up then you have either a power or ground issue (including the start ckt from the sw in this since it sends power to the control ckt. just break out the test light and pm me the last 8 of your vin and ill send you a wiring diagram that is vin specific. if you'd rather just do year model engine that's cool to. good luck.

 

Truck is a 1990 Dakota 3.9 auto. I jumpered the metal cased relay closest to the firewall and it starts. Now the problem is with either the neutral safety switch , the wire going to it or a ground problem on the tranny. I will let you know, thanx everyone.
