Whine in Rearend
OK now for another question, I have the SLT, dual driveshaft, 2.72 gears, Auto Trans, 3.9 Mag engine, 125K miles. when I am driving I hear a whining from the back of the truck, (sounds like Old (65-75) Chevy 3/4 ton whine), it goes up with speed and slows with speed, is much louder with back slider open...
But I was wondering, since I cannot be under the vehicle while driving it, should I first check the Carrier bearing to see if it is the culprit or go straight to the rear gears. My limited slip is not limited, it is full posi, both tires spin in forward and reverse, (dry or snow either way). I know I should not be so rough on my baby, but at times I like to show up the guy that spent over 3,500.00 on his chevy camaro to do what my Dakota does from the factory...LOL
Thanx Guys.

Rear end lash usually goes away if you let off gas. Carrier bearing or front diff bearing noisy all the time. I would crawl under truck and start feelin shaft etc. You also could have a noisy axil bearing.
K will do as soon as Ice storm quits so I can go outside...LOL
Know what you mean. Lost front seal on ranger work truck, put tool boxes, ladder reak on dak in those wind storms 2 weeks ago. Started at 11:30 P.M. finished at 3 A.M. Gee, it was only 17 degrees when I finished, think my hands are finally thawing a little.
