96 dakota 318 4x4 transmission
I have a 96 dakota 4x4 sport, it had 3.9 v6 originally but now it has a 318.
I just put it on the road and on my first trip I blew the tranny.
I suspect its the transmission pump.
I am looking for tips on beefing up the tranny and also on how to identify which transmission I have
any help would be appreciated

Which transmission do you have, from the V6 or the V8? What year is the V8 engine from?
I'm assuming you used your stock V6 transmission which would be a 42re. The V8's in that year came with a 46re. The V8's didn't come with the V6 transmission for a reason. And that reason is it can't handle it. Try getting a V8 transmission if that is the case. 97-up 5.2 came with 44re.
I will move this to the 1st Generation Dakota Sub-Forum.

the engine is 5.2 tbi with matching trans which is out of another dakota I'm guessing from my research is around a 92
