1996 V6 - 3.9L VIN 1B7GG23XXTS503767

For several months the truck would occasionally not crank when I tried to start it, for the last day or two I have to try to crank it several times before it cranks. I hear a click, but not a very loud one, when it chooses not to start - no bendix type of spinning or anything else. When it will start the cranking is strong. Battery indication is normal as are other guages.

I am guessing an aging starter relay, with the starter solenoid the next guess, but as stated I am only guessing.

Any advice on sorting this thing out?

 

next time it does it take a stick or something that will reach and tap on the starter a few times then try. if that solves it the starter is getting tired.
