Default 92 dakota start/idle prob

hey all, i just replaced the plugs wires and distributer cap on my 92 dakota, one of the bolts snapped on the cap and i had to take the whole thing out to drill it out. so now i got it fixed and put all back together exactly the way i pulled it out but now it wont start(kinda) i got it to start a couple times but it idles up and down for about 30-45 sec and dies. played around with the distributer turning it up to a quarter turn each way and nothing. smell real rich and plops every now and then trying to start but it just wont stay running any ideas?

Sounds like maybe you placed the wires to the plugs wrong, or now the distributer is way off from its mark. The FAQ in this section has pictures of how to line it all up. Just a few posts above this one.
