Unhappy 92 dodge dakota Transmission Issues question

I'm currently working on a 92 Dodge Dakota 4x4 for a friend before he moves out of town the issue with the truck is that it has no gears although the linkage cable is seated properly whether in 4 wheel neutral or in any of the 4 wheel gears.. at first i thought the Torque Converter as its kind of making a grinding noise when i put the dash shift lever into reverse neutral drive etc. but when i put it in park it still continues to roll i may be incorrect but isnt park just a pin that locks the gears in place? and could that be enough information for anyone to help me diagnose this problem?

If you have the transfercase in neutral, nothing will work. The transfercase is after the transmission, so it cuts off what the transmission does. That is the way it is designed. Put the transfercase into 2hi, all the way forward.

thank you very much for the response its got me wondering very much because the other day i did fiddle with the gears and nothing happened although ive noticed two of the vacuum lines one going into the transfer case and one coming from a cylinder behind the transfer case (with a hose coming from the transfer case TO the cylinder behind it ) im sorry everythings sloppy today i have been getting crazy amounts of dirt and grease on my hands and so i have to wear gloves because this isnt my pc sorry for grammatical and spelling errors that are very sore to even my eyes

another question is does the line going straight from the transfer case ( not the 2 leading towards the front) go into the manifold and if so where does the one coming back to the engine from the rear canister hang out? those two fell apart on me so ive replaced the lines but honestly dont know where they go

*EDIT* Ive noticed how tired i actually am after 34 hours straight fiddling with 3 vehicles lol.. i asked a question then as if i were asking anotehr asked the same... sorry
