Question 92 dodge dakota 4x4 drivetrain question

i have a couple of questions to ask but ill try to keep it short...
ive taken the transfer case off and manually switched into 2H 4H 4L and everything spins by hand could that be the case wihtout load and not work with load? or do the bands not work period when they go out

i cranked the dakota with the transfer case off the transmission gear spins in drive reverse 2 and 1 but with everything together the vehicle does not move in gear with load

all together im trying to say seperate everything SEEMS fine but all together its not working at all

im trying to single this out without running the bill up to high unless i have to but am willing to thank you in advance

What is your initial problem that you had to take off the transfercase?

The issue that im having which you actually helped answer crazy4x4rt is the issue where i was worried about the car not going anywhere
not even working in park with the gearshift being set in Neutral lol..
but! the same issue with every gear BUT park still applies in 2H 4H and 4L no go ...

i mean it seems like the engine gives a miniscule rpm drop like its actually trying to go into gear and the transfer case sounds like its going into its gear
( which i got the front wheel lock setup fixed i finally got the vacuum lines fixed up and replaced)but nothing happens drive shafts dont move im assuming that maybe clutch pads in the trans ( automatic by the way) are very screwed up? my father had something like that happen to him after 100k in an f150 ( good choice huh... :P j/k) and theres 150k on the dakota

ive been looking around and some people say that some transfer cases arent fitting other trucks so im wondering if its the transfer case although VISUALLY ( i know that doesnt always mean it is) its on spline but if anyone could help through specs truck is original 4x4 92 v8 5.2L orig tranny with an NP 231 D with a ration 272 if any other numbers are needed i can get those.. but compatability should be good right?

if you put the vehicle in park and put the transfer case in neutral, it will roll.
