Mpg problems
Whoever had the truck before me put exhaust on it without a cat and there was only one O2 sensor into the new pipes. I guess I will have to chase down the other O2 sensor plugs and try and get a high flow cat in there or a couple bypass sensors.
I guess whether or not I do something like that depends on how many more miles I can get. I get 13 right now. What is the most you guys with V8s think that I could get out of it?

Depends what kind of driving you're doing, for mostly town that sounds about right for a V8 auto. I'm around 14 for town, averaging 16 mixed right now but I have a 5 speed.
I get 20 to 21 MPG with a 5.2 5 speed in a 95 club cab 4x4. I march I pulled an other 95 club cab from southern Utah to norhern Utah on a toter and got 16. The bed of my truck was full of tools and equipment too.
My odomer is with in a 10th of a mile at 100 miles. Drive like you own it not like you stole it and you get much better milage.

I'll get 20 -21 mpg on the highway and around 16-18 in strictly town driving w/ the A/C on. Tires are 225/75's. Mobil 1 syn. oil. I try to keep my foot out of it.....sometimes.
Since the float on my pump is stuck (guy who installed the new pump before I got the truck didn't line it up right,) I've been filling up around 300 mi. per the trip meter... give or take. I usually have 5 or 6 gals. left in the tank.
One of these days I'm going to drop the tank and re-position the pump. Getting tired of looking at that low-fuel light. For the time being, it runs like a scalded dog
so I'm not in a big hurry to start working on it.

I am assuming you guys that are getting 19MPG have the V6.
What do you guys with the V8 get at the top end of mileage. I am at 13MPG now. I dont have an O2 sensor, will it jump up if I get one to put back on?
Also regarding the O2 sensor on a V8, there is just one O2 sensor that goes before the cat right? So if I have straight pipes and just have it in there about the place that it was, it should read correctly...correct?

I got as low as 15 with the V8 twice-- both while towing
Funny thing...my 93 3.9 2wd, gets only about 14-15 highway. 10 or less city. I have fixed all my vaccum lines, new fuel pump, pres. regulator, filter, plugs wires cap n rotor, and o2 sensor. normal sized tires and no I'm not hualing anything constantly to get that poor mileage. I think there is a reason this motor has the nickname of "Boat Anchor 6" I find it amusing that a mild 5.9 will get better mileage long as I keep my foot out of it.
