Hello i have a 95 dakota with a 318 and it is idleing like it has a huge cam and has really low vaccum (10 inches of mercury). I have replaced plugs, wire, cap and rotor and i cleaned the IAC. Im wondering if anyone on here has ideas as to whats wrong with it. The problems are at idle only when your going down the road it drives normal with no missfires.

 

most likely you got a bad iac...or the port for it is plugged. my truck had that issue and i went through 13 of them before i got a good one

 

it sounds like you have retarded ignition timing or cam timing. Only thing with these magnum engines, ignition timing is NOT adjustable. Before you get to heavy in that, try using seaform in the truck. I did that to my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same engine in your truck and since I did that, it runs like brand new again.

 

I spent some time diagnosing it in autoshop today and we found a stuck egr valve, i hammerd it down temporarly and it runs awesome so much more power. Anyway does anyone know wheres the cheapest place for a egr valve and is it a bad idea to just delete it since i dont have emmissions or is there negative effects on the engine?

 

go to a junkyard and sneak one out...lol i think a junkyard would have one
not sure about deleting it though.

 

Large cams are notorious for low vacuum. Depending on how High your is it may be normal. Some racers with high cams need to use high performance vacuum pumps to run the power brakes and accessories. Sorry to say but this type of problem is what you need to do all the research on the parts you buying.

 

It doesnt have a huge cam its just ideling like it does anyway i found the issue to be a stuck open egr
