When I got my p/u in Jan, my headlights would quit then work again, and I replaced the switch. Now they quit (burning plastic smell) and I had to drive home by pulling the turn signal lever back for headlights!! Do these trucks eat headlight switches?

If it's burning the plastic housing, you have a serious problem. Check for any exposed wires that might be touching metal, thus causing a short to ground. Pull up a wiring diagram for the headlights and check for a blown fuse. Also, do you have aftermarket fog lights/runnings lights, etc. installed on your truck?
