Loose shifter

Default Loose shifter

Hey guys i am having a problem with my 1993 dodge dakota 3.9 l manual 4x4 there is a lot of play in the sifter it has up and down and side to side movement. It sometimes dose not want to go in reverse and grinds when it try. Are there bushings i can replace or something like that. Thank u

Yep, exactly. You need a bushing kit and about thirty minutes time. As far as the reverse thing, I am not totally positive it is related.

The reverse thing I've come to learn to live with. Come to a complete stop before trying to get into reverse, then wait a few seconds with the clutch down. Then try to get in reverse. If it won't go in, in neutral bump the clutch then wait another second with the clutch down and it should go in. There is no syncro for reverse. The 2 gears must be meshed and STOPPED to go into one another.

Thank you marcar1993 and siggie30 for the advice. But dose any one have a pic of the bushing set or know who to get it from

had a 73 gremlin 3 speed with the same problem, replaced the bushings on a regular basis. finally got fed up and put a Hurst 3 speed short gate shifter in it. great move, never had a problem after that. they must make one for the 5 speed dak. took about an hour to install it, even had the the alum hurst "T" handle on it (cost extra) but fit your hand like a glove.
