Transmission advice
I have a 95 Dakota Sport V6 automatic transmission. I was driving down the highway and noticed my RPM was up to 3000 and the truck wasn't shifting. Turns out that a hose had burst off, and smoke was coming out when the dipstick was removed. I got it off the highway to a gas station that was close by to where the truck broke down.
The hose wasn't staying on and it blew off a couple more times trying to do test runs with it just up and down, and I ended up having to take the clamp off the hose leading to the coolant overflow to keep the transmission hose on (and it has been working well since).
All said and done I had 3 different brands and several quarts of fluid through the transmission. Overall it works well, but occasionally when going up a steep hill the transmission will slip. Also, when I fire the truck up after sitting for awhile, like when I leave for work in the AM, it will slip while I am accelerating up to 30mph for a 1/2 second and then catch. After this it will be fine.
I'm looking for advice on what to do. Does something need to be replaced? Does it just need to be flushed? Is it permanently damaged?
Thanks!

smoke from the tube means something got hotter than the devils underpants.
that means either a clutch or a band was smokeing.
in short your trans is probbly fried. i would do a service and see what it looks like. check your band adjustment *see fsm* if you have3 alott of sand in it your clutches and or bands are pretty much dead. if you have alott of metel then you killed a pump or converter or busching etc... the list goes on. if you have no metel and just alott of brown looking sand stuff i'd yank it and build it. if you have alott of metel id find a junk yard trans and build it instead. mostly because of the time spent clening up the valve body and posibbly waiting on hard parts. if you build another you avoid possible down time.
it is posswible that youll pull the pan and it looks ok and that you service it and all is well but i highly doubt it. especially if it's got more than say 50k on it and im sure it does. only way to know what you need to do is pull the pan service it and get some +4 atf in it. no additives. just good clean +4. not some universal crap either. something that specifically sais chrysler +4 approved. if it's trashed and the pan has crap in then put in whatever you want. \
i hope that it's not bad news when you pull the pan.
