Default Is your 4x4 like this?

I just sold my 03 Ram 1500 and bought a 1996 Dakota 3.9 4x4. Gas was overbearing for the 1500.

Anyway, my 4wd works but it is really hard to switch between modes 2wd 4hi etc. Like I have to tug on it with alot of force. Is this common, or do you think there is something I can adjust? My ram had a floor shifter, and i could just tug on it with my fingers to switch between modes.

Thanks guys.

Maybe something is binding in the linkages or low fluid. For 2wd to 4wd hi it should be easy at any speed, but if your at a complete stop it may give some resistance.

If it were me I'd check the fluid then spray the linkage pivots with oil.
