Default Fusible Link Delete

I "accidentally" allowed my wire harness to come in contact with the exhaust manifold. This allowed the older style Voltage regulator line A from the distributor to fry against said manifold. Well, the symptoms were quite disturbing as the vehicle immediately shut off, and now I have zero anything (no starter, interior lights, gauges, fuel pump etc.). I did happen to notice a few "puffs" from the harness near the battery tray. This is of course after retrofitting a 5.9l carb. engine.

I am thinking that I fried the main fusible link (it has a little brown on it and feels a little "chunky") and a few others looked not as healthy as the adjoining wire color. I do not personally care for the fusible link style, but I am not an electrical engineer. Anyone here replaced theirs with in line fuses, or wired in a distribution block to delete the links?

I am confident that it can be done, but will wait on responses.

UPDATE:

I cut all the links out and shortened the (B+) wire feed. Every single link was toasted, but I have continuity to all the wires. I will go and procure some fuse points tomorrow, or buy a distribution fuse block, either way, tomorrow is a shakedown ride.

Fusible links is a good idea on paper, but in real life it is a PIA. Ya just replace it with a fuse and holder, they sell the sealed units so you don't have to worry about it under the hood.
