Ignition switch, wiring to the switch.

I will move this to the Tech section of the 1st Generation Dakota Sub-Forum.

Two things come to mind..... The position of the gear selector rod on the steering column may be a little out. Try wiggling it while turning the key to start or put the gear in neutral and try. Secondly, check the neutral safety switch on the tranny to see if it has become loose, or a wire disconnected.

I had the same problem recently. I parked the truck, and when I went back 20 min. later it wouldn't turn over, and if I remember right the light's on my gauge cluster wouldn't work either. I got a ride to ORielley's and bought an ignition switch. That turned out to not be the problem, it was the lock cylinder. But since the switch was an electronic part i couldn't take it back :/ Anyways, I would purchase the cheapest one first, try it and go from there. You'll also need a special security bit to get it out. They were maybe 5 bucks, and included at least 20 different ones. I think I paid 80 $ all together for the ignition switch and lock cylinder. Good luck!
