Default What would yall think?

Wantin to use the spray on bedliner on the bottom of the the doors and underneath the trim, i already have a paint on it right now but would like to give it a rougher feelin and look to it. Would i have to do the same prep work to it like i would to the factory paint? and what would ya think if i did the side mirrors, the look like sh** right now, i would just paint the back of the mirror and leave the shaft the chrome, and what would be the best way to get rid of the dents in the bumper? with all the dents it seems like the PO didnt know how to stop the truck other then runnin it into a tree

I am thinking of doing this to my truck as well, minus the mirrors. gives me a chance to fix some rust and still have it looking good. I will for sure prep it first. Sand it down, clean it etc. Not too sure how to prep the mirrors though.
When I do it i am pretty sure that I will take the moulding right off and leave it off. Remove the flares, clean up underneath them and put them back on since i know that it is a very common place for rust on our trucks.

As for the bumper, the only thing I can think of rather than getting a new one would be to bang out the dents as well you can then prep and "bedline" it as well. I think it would look pretty darn good!

Considering "Bedline" and Rockguard are pretty similar I'll throw my two cents in here considering I'm a bit of a fan of the stuff.
Heres what I've done so far
Under the trim all around the truck
The complete hood of my truck
The mirrors

Plans for later involve
Front and rear bumpers

The stuffs pretty sweet in the fact that it sticks to anything like glue.
My sidings had no prep work and it hasn't come off yet and it hasn't taken a hint of damage.
Then on my hood there was plenty of prep work in the fact that I sanded it down to the metal and then sprayed a good 3 cans on with a Syphon gun.
The mirrors I just sprayed and it turned out pretty good I think.

This is my advice with the stuff.
Use a Syphon Gun! You get a much better result if you get the propere gun to spray it with. Spray cans and the gun have a different look to eachother and the gun makes it easier to spread it evenly.
Paper off EVERYTHING in the vicinity of where you are spraying. The stuff is thicker then paint yes but it does go everywhere. I have a few spots on my truck where I didn't cover properely and got some crappy overspray. Namely from doing the mirrors.

I'll post a picture tomorrow of my truck since I haven't taken any recently of it with all of its RG

i would like to use a syphon gun but i would have to get one, im just wanting to get a few of the spray cans and go at it and get it done in a good amount of time and try to keep it on the less expensive side. please do post pics of your truck because i want to see what the mirrors look like. im wither gonna use the bedliner or just a regular black spray paint cuse they look bad so im doin it either way. i am goin to atleast scuff the paint that i have on the lower half just to give it somthin more to grab onto, there is no chips in the paint so im not worried about to much prep, but for the mirrorsi will most likley takem off cause we got them off another truck, i had the little plastic ones on when we bought the truck do its only a screw and a couple bolts holdin em on

Syphon guns are dirt cheap.
I got mine for 20$ and its well worth the extra prep time you need for one.
All you need is an air compressor and you're off btw use 70-80PSI if you do use a Syphon gun. I found thats where it works best at least for the "ProGuard 2.1 V.O.C." stuff I use.

Heres a picture of my truck before I redid my sides, and my mirrors. Just the hood is done but it also got one more layer of RG later on to make everything even cause a few parts were thicker then the rest.

My sides were technically done once before. The side thats visible was done by the "Mechanic" who sold me my truck. He used a syphon gun for that side. The other side was done by spray can by the original owner. It was terrible, spots were missed and the texture of it just looked goopy in my thoughts.

When I redid it I went all the way on the bottom so theres no red left under my trim pieces.

Kay heres those pictures I promised yea.

First one is the mirrors
I didn't paint the arm on them since it looked like waaay to much hassle. I just used electrical tape lol.

Heres a good shot of the sides I think. Not really much to explain here.

Heres the entire truck showing the hood, sides, and mirrors
PS: Don't diss the coon tail lol

I plan on doing the bumpers real soon since winter/fall is around the corner.
Then I'm probably just gonna paint the grill with black paint and call it a year.

A few cans of rustoleum and a bag of sand-box sand. While the paint is wet, blow the sand off your hand, and onto the paint. Let dry and then give her a few over-coats of just paint.
