Default Eliminating the Front Drive Shaft on 94 Dakota V6

I have no need for 4 wheel drive anymore and am wondering if i could just take out the front drive shaft and would it buy me better gas mileage?Or would it affect the OB Puter?Has anyone done this before?I drove this truck home about 20 miles once when the front shaft U joint broke and did not seem to have an effect.

You can drive a 4 wheel drive without the front shaft. I don't think it will gain you much if anything at all. Probably no one on here has done this in a truck like yours since this is a 1st gen full size Dodge truck forum. You might want to post in the Dakota forum.

The best way to get rid of your front driveshaft is to trade for a 2wd dakota.

Yea, you can just remove the front driveshaft, nothing "bad" will happen (no computer codes, etc).
As far as gas mileage increase, you can look, and you will not really find.
