Interested in new cam... Valve springs?
Hey guys,
I want to dig deeper into my engine to pull some more ponies, and I'm looking at a Comp Cams "computer controlled" camshaft.

It says I can't use the stock springs. I have no idea where to start looking for a new set. I don't know what specs to look for. I understand the timing chain and jazz, maybe pushrods. But since there are so many numbers involved with springs, I can't get my head around it. I just figured out cams. And I can't find anything on what's recommended. Do they expect me to guess? If anybody has any experience, please share. And if you're feeling generous, please give me a run-down/summary of what these numbers mean. I'm trying to figure all this out. Thanks!

as far as engines go if you replace one thing the other systems become the weak point. you should replace the lifters, rods and springs with new HD units.
the truck looks good crazy, can i borrow it, pretty sure it's the only truck going to make it in to where i fish.

I'm not a cam expert or anything but if you go with new (heavier) springs it's a very good idea to replace the valves with 1 piece valves. The stockers are 2 piece and the heavier springs can rip the heads off. The stock lifters are fine, the pushrods should probably be fine too.
If that's starting to sound like too much work, Harland Sharp 1.7 Roller Rockers bolt on, give you about .028" more valve lift and are a proven 10whp gain.

The springs I used where mopar P5249464 they have a lift range of .400 - .525.
you will need new retainers for those springs i believe the mopar pt number is P4007178 you can reuse the keepers. I am sure there are places online that sell kits with springs and retainers. but i would contact the cam manufacturer and see what springs and retainers they recommend. Any time you change the cam you will need to flash the ecm to get the maximum power out of the camshaft. http://www.bgperformancepcm.com/#magnum
Anytime you cahnge around cams they can change the vacuum causing the motor to run richer, reason for the flash. It is a good idea to replace the valves as Hahns5.2 stated.
