Question 88 dakota charging problem

hey guys new here today, got an 88 dakota 2.2 4 banger 5 speed, been having alot of trouble with over charging, everything in the charging system is new and has been checked on and off the truck, its charging about 15 .5 volts, just in the red over spec, if i pull the regulator wires while running the volt meter in the dash drops to about 12, hook it back up goes back to above 15, if i pull the positive cable while running( old school charging check) the volt meter in the dash pegs passed 18, can anyone help with this?

Sure sounds like the regulator isn't working properly.

I'm not really sure exactly what the problem is.

It just sounded like the alternator is overcharging at 15.5 volts, is that at idle?

At higher RPM's that value is just fine, but only at high RPM's.
