Default tranny issues

hey yall , got that 95 dakota sport club cab 2wd with the v6 auto well the tranny burnt slap up in it like 2 weeks ago so , i take it out and found that it was a 42rh tranny ( a 4 spd) so i lucked out and found one at my local salvage yard out of a 94 dak spt club cab 2wd with a 318 also it was a 4 spd but the 46rh model. so $180 bucks and a half day yankin it i had it. now the problem is when its under there (and btw yes i took the torque converter with the trans from the junkyard ) i get it the whole tranny bout half inch or so from the back of the block and it just will not go no more. ive measured out the **** on both converters and the same diameter. now if i stuff bolts in it and try making it happen that way it just doesnt happen , actually stripped one of the bolt holes that thread into the trans trying. i can bolt the converter to the flex plate but with tension on the bell housing bolts the flywheel will not spin even by the harmonic balancer bolt but take tension off and it will spin. please and ideas help because my buddy and i are stumped and i need this truck going again asap

Sounds like to me the torque converter is not fully seated. The manual has a measurement to make sure the torque converter fully seated. Check the FAQ to download the service manual.
