Default Need help with tire / wheel size

I bought some factoty Dodge wheels off a '99 Dakota to put on my '91. Today I went to get some 235 70/15's installed on the wheels. After 1 hour of trying, they said the wheels are too wide to put 235's on. I need to go to a wider tire. Does that even sound right? Should I just go to a real tire store or what? I went to Walmart because they had a good deal, but that didn't help me much!
Here are the wheels....

Sorry for the link, I can't figure out how to post pics!

Thanks in advance.
Vince.

Those rims are 8in wide, the tire is 9.25 in wide. So the tire is 1.25in wider then the rim.

There is a general rule of something like the tire has to be wider than the rim of 2in. I'm not positive on that number but that may be why they don't want to install them.

Double check with an another tire shop.

Maybe up the size of the tire a bit. Nice wheels.
