1989 dodge dakota sport. No power at key

Default 1989 dodge dakota sport. No power at key

Hi.
I have a 1989 dodge Dakota and it has no power at the key. when i turn the key nothing happens. i changed the lock cyilneder ignition switch checked the ground to the block and the power coming to the starter relay.when i put the key in the buzzer will sound but that's the only "power" i am getting. Any help would be nice and I will keep updating as i do things thank you P.S. it started before and i changed the water pump and it wont start. thank you

Welcome to DF.

Sounds like a possible bad battery or dirty terminals or cables. Loose or disconnected or dirty ground or positive cables.

Without seeing the truck it is hard to say what it is.

i checked and cleaned the terminals and my battery i got 12.6 on the battery. some one hacked in to the wiring before i got it. and i also checked the grounds to the block and frame they look to be good i cleaned the one to the block like i said i don't know what it could be thank you so vary much for your suggestions. throw any ideas at me i will be happy to hear them thank you

I have the starter relay off as well this one is the metal one with 4 prongs in side i dont know if you know how to test it, its not in the book

look theres a couple starter components in the engine bay wall on the driver side, theres going to be a starter relay bolted on the wall it should make a noise when you turn the switch, it also acts as a ground, same thing happened with my 89 sport just take it off and clean the area so it grounds properly.
