Exclamation Transmission Search

I do feel dumb asking lol but I just want a simple, straight forward answer. I've been on the search for a transmission and I've found some leads but I also thought hey, I'm replacing it anyway, why not consider some sort of upgrade. So basically my truck has the 5.2 with 4 speed transmission (46re correct?). Well I've come across a few of those. But what else can easily be swapped in without any extra work? And what can be swapped in with some extra work? Pretty much just wondering what all my options are cause I'm desperate at this point lol and don't worry, I've checked the FAQ but just not quite getting the full answer I want.

For example...found a good deal on a transmission out of a 96 but IIRC theres a different electrical connection or something right? Or am I mixing signals and info? Haha

Yes you would have the 46rh. No there is no simple drop in upgrades as far as transmissions. You can try a 47rh or 48rh which ever one it is, the Ram 2500 and 3500 had them behind the 5.9 but they will draw more power from the engine and the info I have seen is it is not a direct bolt on.

Your best bet is to rebuild, you never know what your getting when it is used.

96-up is electronically controlled by the PCM.

Manual

1994 - 1996
L4 and V6 AX-15 5-speed
V8 NV3500 5-speed (1st 4.01, 2nd 2.32, 3rd 1.40, 4th 1.00,5th 0.73, Rev. 3.55)

Here is a list of Manual transmissions by make and year.

Here is a list of manual Transmissions with descriptions of different transmission.

This is a small segment of the FAQ...

are you sure its 94-96 or is it 1992 to 1996? From what I've read in the faq, the 3.9 trans will fit onto the v8, so will the v8 tranny fit onto the 3.9???

I'm a honda guy, one size fits all!

1992-up is Magnum engines, that being said, if you find a transmission from a 1992, it will work in a 1994. I wouldn't put the AX-15 behind a V8 because it won't last long. The NV3500 will bolt up behind the 3.9 but is longer than the AX-15 and you will have to make a new transmission mount bracket.
