Default carb help

my cousin has a 87 dakota 3.9 he bought it last year it started running rough and stalling out put new plugs wires cap rotor fuel and air filters. didnt make a difference. took it to a shop they told him the carb was bad bought an oe replacement about 500.00 for the carb ran awesome till just before winter. he said he did some web searching found that because of the design of the engine emissions the carb could be bad again but im thinking differently. the truck will run fine for a while then it will just die be hard to start let it sit for a little bit then it will be fine for a while and stall again. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or is there a better not so expensive carb that could be installed? thanks

Carburetors are very touchy, they need adjustments to get them running correctly. Often it will need adjusting for the summer and winter. Find a quality Carburetor shop to properly adjust it.

Problem is some parts for older carbs are carb specific and fixing them can be impossible because of parts. As crazy says time for carb shop. Those guys usually know their stuff.
