1989 Dodge Dakota Question
I drive a 1989 Dodge Dakota, 2 wheel drive, with the 3.9 liter V-6. I am and have been experiencing a strange problem with hesitation and lack of power to the wheels while driving at times. I scanned the truck and the only trouble code it is giving me is as follows
(ERROR CODE : 34 SPEED CONTROL VACCUUM OR VENT CONTROL SOLENOID CIRCUIT)
So my question is where is the speed control vaccuum and vent control solenoid located in the truck ?
And what steps do i take to remedy the problem with this specific portion of the truck ?
Dodge has refferred me here to get a step by step on how to fix it or at least locate and diagnose the problem.

The cruse control solenoid is on the firewall, on the early models it might be by the battery. It will have a cable to the throttle body. My guess is maybe you have a vacuum leak. Check all hoses and connections.
In the other post you said it doesn't have power when under a load, which would make me think the transmission is dying.

Well of course I hope that the tranny is not going out. I also had another Mechanic tell me something about the vaccuum line that goes into the brake booster in the truck, and to hook a vaccuum pump to that line with a vaccuum pump and gauge, then I believe he said run the truck. Apply the brake and if the needle dives he said it would mean my Torque Converter is plugged or something along those lines do you know what he is talking about there and what it would take to fix a plugged or even inspect a torque converter in the truck ? And I found the solenoid off your advice so thanks alot man it is on the fire wall as you said and I plan on inspecting and starting to track it all on monday we have snow at the moment but have the garage to myself on Mon. and most of next week. Anyway thanks again and hope to hear back soon with this torque converter isssue. Peace for now.
Interesting post on all, our 89 feeds vac from engine to brake booster and then to the cruise contro; assemb;y. Never heard of a vac leak causing Tq. Conv. problem but then again since our trucks are so new,
only have 135K and 154 K thats years off, so I havn't delved into those...YET.
