Okay thanks. I figured grade 5 would be enough strength since im only going 1/4 or so longer... but i've also read other places online, grade 8 is the only way to go.

Any idea of torque specs for a grade 5 u-bolt?

oh and one final question i just thought about. I've heard when you lift these by the rear leafs, (either hangers/shackles/leaf packs) you have to shim the axle to correct its angles, i dont haul alot, just doing this to have a cheap small lift. would i have to worry about it beings im just using an add-a-leaf?

It usually depends on how much lift you get. Just see where it put you after the lift and adjust if needed. It would be best to measure it with an angle finder, but if you don't have one take a good picture to compare to.

well the add-a-leaf is installed on both sides... i ended up with approx 1" of lift is all.

But either i was doing something wrong, or my c-clamps were junk as both split to pieces on the first leaf pack...

Just another question, as i seen in the pics posted on this thread of doing the aal, how many leafs were in your original pack?

Mine has just 4, and the new aal went right on the bottom. where as it looks like Sauxon has 5 before the aal...

the truck sure seems to actually ride alot smoother tho.
