Default 1993 Dakota 4x4 Problem

Hello,
i have a 93 dakota with the 5.2 Auto and the 4 wheel drive doesnt work, it makes a clanging sound, like gears are slipping, i have a feeling its the chain in the transfer case, but my question is, since i dont use the 4WD, is it safe to drive still in just 2wd? i dont hear any noises while driving, just in 4wd it instantly does that... any information would be awesome! also, how hard would it be to fix? maybe just remove the 4wd all together? lol

It is possible it is the transfercase chain. Typicality a non-working 4wd on a 1993-down Dakota would be the CAD Central Axle Disconnect not functioning properly.
