Default 89 dakota alternator

Hi all. I'm new to Dodge and new to this forum. I have an 89 Dakota 3.9L 4x4 and right now I have a charging issue. There is a fairly new battery in the truck, so I suspected the alternator. I have since found out that for this truck there are some that are externally regulated and some are internally regulated and they look the same. I have also been told that it may not be an alternator issue but that the computer regulates voltage. This is all very confusing. Help!!

If you can bring it over to an AutoZone and they can check your alternator/battery and let you know if one or the other isn't working properly. Oh and its free to have them check it too!
