Does my Dakota hate me? I can't get to that 3rd bolt.
I don't understand how to navigate this forum so please be nice. I don't want to swap in a Hemi or go drag racing. I just want to replace the old worn motor mounts on my 95 Dakota with the 318. There are 3 bolts that hold the mount to the engine. How does one go about getting a socket on that 3rd bolt in the middle of the mount?
On the 2wd motor mounts when they fail they can collapse on it self and cover up the bolt. I had to tear it apart just to get to it. Your going to need to buy new ones since your stock ones are bad.
Thanks Crazy, I figured out that I wasn't lifting the engine high enough. The oil filter had to come off in order to remove the long bolt holding the mount to the frame. Once I jacked the engine up a few inches the old mount pretty much fell apart so I could get a socket on that bolt. Technically speaking this is a simple job. The impossible ergonomics of doing this from my back in the driveway was the real issue. The new mount went into place easily but lining up the bolt holes and getting the bolts started was a real test of my do-it-yourself mentality. Oh well, after several hours and a few mental health breaks the passenger side was done. Just one new mount a huge difference. I'm going to knock the other side out right now. Thanks again.
