Default 96 Dakota 3.9/auto trans won't start

I drove the truck into my garage to replace the water pump. It was running great. After I changed the water pump, it cranks but does not fire. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor and the coil - still no spark. The cap and rotor looked bad and had lots of signs of the spark jumping around inside the cap. I was pretty confident I had fixed the problem. NOT TRUE. I then worked back to the coil and replaced it. Still no fix. I know very little about the ignition system, so I just tried replacing possible suspected parts. There is fuel pressure at the part with the "valve-like" part near the air cleaner. I pressed the spring in the valve and plenty of fuel was present. I don't know what to try next. I read past posts about "no spark" and some suggestions talked about replacing the PCM. I don't know what the PCM is. Because the no start/spark problem began after I replaced the water pump, I am blaming myself for screwing something up. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It seems like too much of a coincedence that the water pump leaked and then no start problem.

Mike

Default Problem Solved

Good news is I discovered the timing chain broke. I had a buddy crank the engine while I looked for my brand new rotor to start turning with the cranking of the engine. Bad news is the rotor does not turn. So, I guess I solved my own problem. The chain must of broke.

Well that sucks to hear that. But on the good side you shouldn't have to worry about any warped valves or pushrods since you were pretty much at idle when it happened. All you should have to do is replace the timing chain. Make sure you buy the timing chain kit. It comes with new gears. Good luck on the repairs.
