He is referring to the Fuel injector Sync. The distributor pickup coil controls the fuel injector sync. In the older days you adjust the distributor to adjust the timing, on Fuel injection systems the timing is computer controlled. And by adjusting the distributor you adjust the fuel injector to synchronize it to the spark/timing of that cylinder.

To properly set it you need the DRBII full scanner. Without it all you can do it match #1 cly TDC and the rotor to the #1 mark on the pickup coil base, which will get it close enough.

As for the OP problem did you set it with the DRBII scanner?
Is the engine running bad? If it is running good then I wouldn't worry about the timing.

yeah I understand the fuel sync deal I have done so many times I do them with a Snap on "Brick" scanner.
I just didn't understand what he meant by how he stated that.
Timing is totally computer controlled, by way of the crank sensor; rotating the dist wont alter the (ignition) timing like the old days, only the injector timing.

You can read actual ignition timing and advance via the scanner screen

I got the fuel injector sync signal but was confused when I was watching the advance for ignition timing computer control go from. 10-24 degrees in advance while idling but yes engine runs great

the computer does as it wants; theoretically it'll run its best with as much advance as you can give it brfore it pings.
