Hi guys I have a 1993 dakota 3.9 2WD 5spd.

Here is the problem:
When you put the truck into first gear and you don't hold the shifter in place with your hand it will pop out of gear, but if you hold it it makes like a loud click noise and then goes into gear. Also when driving and shifting into fourth, it will grind and make it impossible to get into fourth. The truck can be started without having to depress the clutch, and when you come to a complete stop and put into reverse, it grinds like the tranny was still spinning. I don't know if this will help to diagnose the issue or not.

Here is my solution:
Buy a rebuild kit from ebay and get the transmission rebuild. I am not sure which one to buy, and if thats a good move.

Please let me know any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

where are you located? I know where there is a 93 3.9 5 spd in a yard extremely crusty frame only 113K miles... in this yard itll be cheap. if someone didn't get that tranny in the week since I was last there.
that said I redid my AX 15 thats in my Wrangler a year ago it wasnt as bad as I feared it might be.

 

Im in Vancouver Washington, where is this yard at? Maybe I can arrange something, I have friends that drive coast to coast and they can pick stuff up for me.
