91 dodge dakota new pump runs like crap
hi fellas looking for some help with the truck 91 dodge dakota 318 other day it stalled out going down the road and the anti lock and E brake light came on didnt start didnt start steped out of the truck to listen for fuel pump prime it did prime and then if fired up the lights did not go out untill the battery was disconnected and reset the pcm truck was fine the rest of the day adn the next day it did the same thing was at a stop sign went to pull out and died lights came on again and no start this time fuel pump did not prime tryied switching the relays nothing that was the end of the fuel pump pulled the plug off the pump and overrided the relay and was getting 12v to the pump but it didnt not prime and the truck did not start bought a new pump $180 and new rubber filler and breather hoses because mine where all dry rotted droped the tank put it all back together and now the new pump is so quite you cant even hear it prime unless you put your ear to the tank but the truck runs now but it will not idle it will stall out dead like its starving for fuel however you are able to rev it up fine with no problems but now with this new pump the fuel gauge works when the key is in the on position but once you start the engine the gauge drops to E and as soon as it stalls it comes back up again and also the anti lock brake light and E brake light keep coming on any help is apreshated thanks ahead of time
Sounds like a lot of wiring problems. As for the pump, I would suggest to test out the fuel output. Also you may want to change the fuel filter. As for the gauge it is possible the float is stuck and that is why it is reading empty, probably needs adjusting.
The ABS and Brake light may be a bad wheel sensor or a bad fuse. The FAQ has a post on how to trouble shoot it.

well the gauge has been messed up sense i bought the truck 2 years ago as for the lights they have been just coming on simutinauislay when the truck stalls but those two problems are the least of my worrys i just want to get the trucking running long enough to get it home and i will be picking up a fuel filter today from napa after i drive right past the place from work then over to the shopping center where the truck sits to see if anything has changed ill take my good voltmeter with to and do some testing and ill check in to my fuel pressure and flow and report back thanks
well worked on the truck today pulled the codes out of the abs unit im getting a code 7 checked all the fuses and there good im not sure what other parts of the system to check the code discription is to breif also the fuel gauge is now fixed it was misadjusted and had time to replace the fuel filter today and all kinds of black **** came out of it thing is i just changed it about 4000 miles ago i guess todays ethonal is just destroying older vehicles fuel systems now with that changed the engine revs better sometimes it will bog down if you rev it to quick and it will attempt to idle but it surges really bad from 300 rpm all the way up to 1200 rpm for about 5 minutes and then it will eventually drop low enough it stalls i think the cloged fuel filter led to the demise of the fuel pump didnt have time to check the fuel pressure or the flow what is the approx pressure of the pump supose to be while the engine is running this is a TBFI engine thanks for the help
is it possable that the injectors might be cloged and how would i go about fixing that code #7 on abs ill be doing more work today on it and this weekend i hope ill get er going again or at least get it home
