PowerTrax LSD
Has anyone ever used this differential http://www.alljeep.com/oscommerce/pr...roducts_id=947. Im thinking about buying this differential because it says that there is no setup needed for the gears. Im just wondering if its as easy to install as they make it out to be. Plus I have a uncle that works for ohio gear and they make the Richmond gears so I can probably get it at cost through my uncle. So if any of you have used this differential or know someone that has let me know if its something that can be installed within a few hours with basic hand tools and if there is any setup that has to be done. Im not experienced enough to setup the gears and stuff so I would have to take the rear end to someone and have it installed and setup if that is required.
Well first of all it is not a LSD. It is an Automatic Locker which locks the axles shafts together to get you a true 50/50 power split to the axle shafts. A Limited Slip Differential (also known as a Posi) slips and doesn't allow any thing close to 50/50.
Yes I have the Powertrax No-Slip installed. It is easy to install no setup of the gears required. Yes it can be done in an hour or two. It is worth every penny if you need the traction. On the streets it can take time to get used to.
The worst part is turning sharp from a dead stop it is easy to chirp the tires which is not bad but slowly wears the tires and Cops might pull you over if he has a bad day. The best way to reduce it is to give a hard push on the gas before the turn to coast into the turn.
As far as strength it can take a beating if properly installed. I'm always pushing my truck to its limits and it pushes right back.
A few more options are available. The Lock-Right version, I had the Powertrax Lock-Right same as the No-Slip as in performance and installation.

As well as the Spartan locker. I helped my friend install this in his 04 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Easy install no problems at all with it.

For the locker installation you don't have to remove the carrier.
To install a ring and pinion set you will have to dissemble the entire axle and rebuild including setting up the gears. Best to take it to a shop.
If you worried about the Powertax No-Slip locker then watch this video. The Lock-Right version as well as the Spartan version is similar.
