94 dakota 5.2 problem after warmup
my old dakota has been very reliable.... until just recently ...
problem noted : when engine cool , starts and runs fine .... once engine reaches operating temp the truck wants to die.... will usually idle... but in order to get it to start you must floor the accelerator, then engine will start , but the mixture is VERY RICH, naturally blows out the extra fuel dumped into the chambers through the exhaust ... truc k runs fine down the road and cruise works well,
i have verifired all of the sensors per manual desription , i do electrical / mechanical repair in the oilfield on drill ships.... but this problem is driving me nuts, a short trip granted,
starts just fine cold ... i have replaced the fuel pump... still have no read on fuel guage.... have torn the harness apart looking for the previously mentioned problems noted in the forum ... and have reassembled the harness ... still same problem( i did correct a couple of the splices and a fuseable link) ... still same trouble ... once engine warms up it runs fine down the road , yet when u touch , and i do mean ,touch the accelerator pedal when idling ... the PCM dumps a BUTTLOAD of fuel into the combustion chamber /FLOODS , once you reve the engin and clear out the excess fuel .. runs fine again , until it is clutched and allowed to go back to idle ... then as soon as an input to the throttle pedal is recieved the PCM will dump fuel ... and this only happens when the engine has warmed up .... when cold it has no problem whatsoever.... once it warms up , you must floot the accelerator to get it to start, andthen it will idle , but once u touch the gas pedal, it will die from being flooded , you can smell it and see the black smoke from the unburnt fuel....THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH any of the testable sensors .... using a chiltons manual and testing procedures ... could this be a problem caused by the EGR circuit, or the O2 sensor ?....any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks and have a great day, bro

Sounds like O2 sensor to me. When the engine is cold it will run in a closed loop and bypass the O2 sensor until it warms up. Once the engine warms up it runs in a open loop and looks to the O2 sensor to monitor the air/fuel mixture. If you haven't changed the O2 in awhile I would definitely replace it first. Usually the egr valve dont go bad the just plug the hole in the intake with carbon build up. Buy a egr valva gasket and take yours off and see if the hole is plugged. I almost bet it is. If it is just use a pick and a shop vac to clean it out and try not to let a bunch drop into the intake.
