Well first give us some details on the engine that you have and what has been done so far. Also when you say you want more power and more mpg thats something that you have to decide. Either power or mpg, yes more power can get you better mpg if you drive it for fuel economy. But at 19 you get more power you go faster and get less mpg lol, hell im 30 and im the same way lol. If you have the 3.9 you can install a 5.2 throttle body for a good power increase, headers, remove cats if your state does NOT have emissions hi flow cat if you do have emissions, aftermarket muffler, cold air intake, electric fan conversion can get you about 10hp, performance pcm, nitrous, roller rockers, heads, cam, all that stuff will guve you a little more pep. Check out the FAQS and there is alot of good info in there about the v6 and also performance upgrades.

Yeah I kinda figured you had the 3.9 so all the stuff I listed will give you a power increase. If it were me id get the v8 TB, exhaust work, and some kind of performance chip/pcm, and do the efan conversion. That it self will really wake up that 3.9 and not cost all to much to do. But as far as opening yours up I cant lie, I give my truck hell and if/when my motor lets go I will drop the 5.9 in mine and swap all my bolt on's over. Good luck with your build and take lots of pics and post your progress cause we all enjoy watching a stock truck get modified.

Just a stock v8 TB, remove cats headers with true duals into whatever mufflers you want.

Get High Flow cats, but if you don't do that work yourself, for what it would cost you in getting a decent TB and all the exhuast, you could easily craigslist a good running V8.

For a single exhaust your probably looking at $400 to get hi flow cat, muffler, and custom y-pipe made plus welding everything in plus whatever headers cost. For dual exhaust probably around $550 and thats for 2 hi flow cats, 2 mufflers, and all the welding plus headers. You can also save some money if you decided to turn the exhaust down before the axle. A v8 TB probably be around $50. You can find headers on ebay pretty cheap.
