Default Performance ignition coil?

#1 Has anyone tried an aftermaket "hot" ignition coil?

#2 How about a throttle body spacer?

Worth the cost/Noticed a gain?

Thanks

TB spacer will ONLY move your torque curve. It will not give a meaningful gain.

The aftermarket coils, however, will produce a larger, longer spark (if you also use an aftermarket distributor) and will aid in fuel burn. As far as meaningful gains..... No, not with just the coil. If you alter your compression, or change your plug style, then you may be able to measure something, but you will not feel it.

As far as cost benefit? It depends on how many miles you drive the vehicle divided by the money you spent above maintenance. The more you drive, the more you will see a benefit. However, If you buy a nice coil, you will love your truck more.

I put the MSD Blaster coil on my truck and I could tell a very small difference. The reason you want a aftermarket hot coil is because it will throw a hotter spark and burn the fuel more completely. Throttle response is really the only thing you noticed. Throttle body spacers are to really a power adder. They twist the incoming air to make it more dense. Throttle response will be what you get with a TB Spacer. Also there are no true dyno tests that show a spacer actually giving hp and torque increase.

Aftermarket coils for these trucks have a poor reliability reputation.

My stock coil still lights 10lbs of boost on the stock plug gap.

If louisiana doesn't do emissions, then gut the cat and put a high flow muffler on it like a flowmaster. I know this helped out my v6. Use the autolite 3923 plugs. Also keep that oil changed frequently. I know mine always runs a little smoother/better after a fresh oil change because mine has 236,000 miles on it; the lifters are getting a little tired, I can hear them make a little noise when an oil change is about due lol.
