Default A/C stuff.

Sooo amazingly enough, my 93' Tank has never had the A/C serviced whatsoever, as it has never given any trouble in the last 20 years of his life. Recently however, the compressor on the fan belt has started to squeal intermitantly, turn my a/c off then on again it stops. also the pressure hose closest to the radiator off the compressor has been showing ALOT of sweat on the metal line, and occasionally i will smell exhaust, or even gasoline through my vents when its on. I think i can safely assume my freeon is about a pound low..and sadly it is R-12 so no easy refill from the parts store.

Would it be better to try and rig new lines out of a newer Dak or Ram that can handle the chlorine from R-134? or just get a new compressor and dryer and a pressure line, then get a shop to just refill the R-12?

If your just low you can just refill but it will leak out again. www.craigslist.org you usually can find cheep deals on R-12 cans.

You can convert to 134a easily, there are simple kits.

Ah alright. From what i have heard 134a has chlorine in it that r12 doesnt and it will eat away the lines and seals in other parts, which stuff would you guys recommend swapping out to newer stuff to keep from havin to mess with it for another 15 years?

Everything is fine. As long as the R12 is completely flushed out. I've been running 134a with the conversion kit for about 10 years on my 93 with factory R12, with no problems. Go to an AC shop and they will do it all for you, so you know it is done right if your worried.
