Default dakota questions, need some help.

ok lets start off by saying im new to the forum, hello everyone, im currently working on a project i just got, its 48 dodge 2 deluxe and i wanna put a newer front end in it and i wanna stick with dodge, im not not one for cross breeding and refuse to do it. so heres my dilema, i want to use the 2 wheel drive front end from a 87-90 dodge dakota so i have a more common bolt pattern instead of the 6 hole like some newer one (which i think is dumb, no offense to anyone) but where im located it seems to be that no one has that year dakota, so what im wondering is will the spindles from the older dakata work on a newer one??? thanks.

Sounds like a great project. I had a 1950 Desoto Custom (Same as Dodge), I wanted to do the same thing.

From what a few others have said, yes you can swap rotors/hubs and rear axle shafts from the early years up to 96 with no problem.

What I suggest is to get a 2wd Dakota single cab short bed (if it measures right) V8 92-95. That will be the best with great power with modern fuel injection (as simple as it gets) great handling modern brakes ect. If you wanted swap the rotors and the axle shafts to convert to the 5 lug. But the 6x4.5 actually does have a good amount of aftermarket. Most of the time it has to be made to order. Or use wheel spacers/adapters to convert the lug pattern.

If you do go with this post up tons of pictures.

Sorry if this is de-railing, not trying to but got a similar question.

Hey Crazy, turns out a co-worker of mine may sell me his 1951 Dodge pickup, and with it give me a "62 413 Wedge Big Block. Any advice on what to do for suspension? I'm thinking very early 80's or late 70's front end so it can handle the big block with little or no modding there and stock mounts, and also give my PS and whatnot.
Thoughts?

Well like I said that is what others have said. Go to an auto parts store have them pull both and compare them. Next take it home try it out. Don't lube it just in case you have to take it back or if they don't let you return it then it is a simple $40 loss vs other wise. Or go to a junkyard and get what you need and again if it don't work it is a cheep loss.
