Default CODE 053-COMMUNICATIONS ERROR/PCM FAILURE - LOOKING FOR a 4886660 PCM - got one???

My 95 Dakota with a V6 3.9 L automatic has a PCM/ECM that is constantly kicking off code 053 now and acting up. Something on that board is fried.

Anybody have a used one for sale???

Best place to buy one???

Advance Auto has a Cardone for $257, no core charge.

P/N: 4886660

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave H.

see if you have any wrecking yards around, i got a spare for my 93 v6 manual for like $20
luckily i was able to find a truck that was same year+engine+drivetrain that was almost untouched. best to see if you can get there right when they get one in (PCM is one of the first things to go)

That sucks But I understand why - mine bit the dust so to speak on an extremely hot day (100+) when I was just tooling around town in allot of stop and go.

Just saw one at a northern Wisconsin yard for $100.

Now debating if I should go reman ($257), salvage yard ($100) or dealer OEM ($ tbd - probably through the roof)???

I see there is a WTB section on the forum but for some reason it won't let me post??????????

THANKS!!!!

Dave H.

Well tbh it might be better to get the Reman, since usually there is no way to be certain that the one you get at the wrecking yard is actually working.....

Yeah if you plan to keep the truck for awhile and can afford it definitely go with either the reman or see if you can find a performance pcm. If ur tight on money and need it up and running then buy a used one from a pull-a-part. They guarantee the electronics to work and if they dont they will swap for a new one or give you the money back. But if you buy from a yard pay cash cause if you dont then something is wrong with it you have to wait 3-5 days for the money to go back on your card. Also check the classifieds on this site. Ive bought alot of stuff off here from other members.

He's running a V6. Mopar only ever made something like 200 performance PCMs for the v6, so they are impossible to find, unless you go with a non-mopar PCM, even then you'd still have better luck getting one for a 318/360.
