I am replacing my front right tire on a 96 dakota, took the lugnuts off and the wheel just won't come off...is there a trick to this? Is there something else that needs to come off so the wheel can come off too?

 

put one lug nut on a couple of threads and hit the tire, "not the rim" with a sledge from under the truck or do what i do and sit on ur *** and rotate kicking the tire on the left and right side. it will eventually come off but becareful not to kick it off the jack....

adrenalinejunki: That is exactly what I did, and it did come off after I read your post. A bit unnerving to see the truck rocking and I am partially under it...I did have the jack in place, and for good measure I also had a jackstand as a back up. Thanks for the tip, I'd never changed a tire in my entire life that required kicking the s*** out of it!

 

If you have aluminum rims, a little bit of never seize around the centering hub helps alot, its cuased by the differences in metal "aluminum on steel" i think its called galvanic corrosion, not sure on that though. My truck has sat for 2 years, when i went to redo the back brakes, mine were really stuck on, i used some PB blaster, let it soak a day, then proceeded to kick the hell out of them.

 

no problem, i worked for discount tire and on many occasions i had to hit the tire with a sledge hammer to get them off but the cars were on a lift so i didnt have to worry about it falling but its always better to be safe than sorry when doing things like that so it was a good idea to put a jackstand in place.. befor reinstalling the wheen you can buff the hub and back of the wheel to remove any rust or corrosion
