1992 2.5 cam!
i have a 1992 dakota with the 2.5 and a 5 speed. it quit running the other day when i pushed in the clucth. remove valve cover today and found a broken camshaft. is this common with the 2.5? what all do i need to replace a cam? any help is greatly apprecated. thanks brian.
I broke a camshaft in my '88 Dodge Daytona 2.2 turbo which is basically the same engine as yours. I'm told it happens often but mine and yours are the only two I've heard of.
The timing belt has to come off then it's simple. After the valve cover is off you just have the bearing caps to remove. Back all the bolts out equally and slowly. You don't want to break a cam cap and keep them in order. Don't go mixing them up. Use a torque wrench to tighten them down. It's 200 in/lbs not ft/lbs.
