Removing my E.G.R valve on my 1990 Dodge Dakota. 3.9 V6 2wd
Can anyone give me any tips on how to remove the complete E.G.R valve assembly on 1990 Dakota? I'm actually a first-time Dodge owner and not completely familiar with a lot of the systems. Also, again... not familiar, but I think he effectively ****ed up the Air injection system, and I THINK it may be causing backfire. The previous owner removed the catalytic converter and cut off the "tubes" on each side that connected to the converter. Those tubes run back up to the engine compartment to what I assume is the fan driven compressor that injects air into the catalytic converter. There are two larger hoses coming out that connect to pipes, and a few small vacuum lines that connect to the E.G.R valve. One of the small vacuum lines has been capped and the other left to hang. Can I completely remove all the systems and the E.G.R valve? And, is there any way to remedy the backfire that is caused by gases built up in the pipe that were normally flushed out by the air injection system? Effectively, what's on there now is doing nothing. Instead of the converter, the previous owner ran a straight pipe disabling the gas recycling. What to do? Any tips at all could help. Take it easy on me guys, I'm new! Thanks again. P.S. I'd like to remove EVERYTHING if at all possible.

You can remove everything if you wish but your MPG and HP may go DOWN. It is worth it to fix it all to function like it was suppose to. The air pump just dilutes the exhaust gases with fresh air so it appears to be burning cleaner then it is (all manufactures did this in the 70's-80's cheep way around emission laws).
