Belt squeak after front engine rebuild.
So i recently replaced the timing chain on my dakota, and now ive got a pretty bad belt squeak, but it isnt a continuous squeak. i think it may have something to do with the crank pulley. i know i needed to torque the harmonic balancer back in place and i though i did. i used a torque wrench to turn the bolt as far as i could, with the truck in gear, then i used an impact wrench to make sure it was in good. however when i look at my motor while its running, the whole balancer/pulley appears to be wobbling from side to side. is this what is causing the belt squeak and why isn't the balancer in straight if i torqued it right?
Well i ended up figuring it out. just went to go look at it. i let the engine idle while i listened to the noise and watched the belt. it sounded like it was only happening once during a single belt loop, so i decided to pop the belt off and look over it.
there was plenty of specs of metal or rocks stuck in the belt tracks, and i had seen some before but i figured id clean them out. so i went over the whole belt a couple times and did pull some pretty significant chunks of metal/rock out of the belt tracks.
i then put the belt back on and fired it up. Noise gone
