Default How do I know?

My alternator is only reading 12.1 v
I read / heard somewhere that the regulator is in the computor. So, how do I know if its the alternator or computor? I havent done any testing other than checking the voltage at the battery and behind the alternator.
12.1 w nothing on, at idle. I did say "Oh maaaaaan" out loud in a very professional voice though.

my vote is dead alt, as if it don't produce enough current there is nothing to regulate... I bet your batt voltage with the engine not running not cranking over etc is also 12.1
