Default Oil pressure sensor problems

I need help trying to figure this one out. I drive a 4 cyl., 96' Dakota. I had an oil leak from the oil pressure sensor itself. Today I went to o'reillys and got a new one. When I got home it turned out the one I got from them was the wrong one. the nipple of the sensor that screws into the elbow on the side of the block was larger than the sensor I pulled off. I went back and they said it was the right one. so after looking at differrent sensors the only one that would fit goes to a 97' Dodge Daakota. I put it on, but the oil pressure gauge isn't showing the pressure now. any ideas?

Sorry, i meant to say that the oil pressure gauge isn't working now. Is it possible that there are two different size nipples for the 96' 4 cyl., but oreilly's is only carrying the larger diameter sensor?
