Default trans whine

94 club cab 318 2wd auto
started having trouble a while after rebuild. whines, kind of like a ford power steering pump, when its in drive or reverse. no noise in park or neutral. short time after it started that it stopped down shifting to first when coming to a stop. have to manualy pull it into first but seems to upshift fine. any input would help

Whining is not good... manualy shifting into first is not good....I assume you have checked the fluid level (while running in nuetral) and its good? low fluid level will make them act weird like that....but if its not the fluid level, I would have to wonder about that so called re-build?? Did a reputable shop do it? Is it still under warranty? could be the planetary gears....

checked every thing you can externaly. unfortunatly, the reputable person who rebuilt it went throu a nasty divorce the week i gave him the slipping trans and i was lucky to get it back so im screwed there cause he moved far away. i'll probly be pulling out to have it done right.
